Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University Intelligent Transportation Systems Application and Research Center (BAUSMER)

As one of Turkey's youngest and most dynamic universities, Bandırma Onyedi Eylül Üniversitesi was founded on April 23, 2015, by the Official Gazette No. 29335 and by Law No. 6640. Our university has started its academic life with a long history of 24 years and an experienced academic staff taken over from Balıkesir University. Our university continues its education and research activities with 4 institutes, 8 faculties, 1 college, 6 vocational schools and 6 application and research centers in 6 campuses in total. As of the 2017-2018 academic year, our university has approximately 11.000 students at associate, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. In May 2016, YÖK determined 8 universities in 8 fields as specialized universities. In this context, our university has been determined as a specialized university to work in Intelligent Transportation Systems. In addition to other educational and research activities, our university has focused especially on Intelligent Transportation Systems, which is its area of ​​expertise and has carried out many workshops and activities. In this context, the "Intelligent Transportation Systems Application and Research Center" was founded at our university on November 15, 2017 with the regulation numbered 30241 published in the Official Gazette. Our university will achieve its new goals within the scope of the specialization mission given by YÖK through this application and research center (BANÜ AUSMER). Our university, which was also a member of AUSDER in 2017, continues to work within the framework of the joint missions and visions of other universities, TUBİTAK, YÖK, and other public-private sector stakeholders in line with the "National Intelligent Transportation Systems Strategy Action Plan-2023 Targets" announced by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs, and Communications. Within the scope of these studies, our first international congress, "1st International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems" was held on April 19-21, 2018.

In addition, the signed protocol "Joint Project Development for the Preparation of Urban Transportation Problems Analysis and Transportation Planning Project" covers the preparation of the transportation master plan of Bandırma, determination of critical areas and measurement, household survey, determination of road capacities, increasing transportation capacity, preparation of draft plans and projects related to all these, preparation of a transportation study and preparation of a report.

The project, which will be carried out within the scope of the protocol, which is aimed to bring important solutions to Bandırma's transportation problems, will be carried out under the leadership of our Intelligent Transportation Systems Application and Research Center (BAUSMER) Director Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tektaş and under the coordination of our Deputy Director Dr. Lecturer Taylan Engin. Prof. Dr. Taylan Engin will coordinate the project. When deemed necessary, faculty members from our Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, who teach in the Department of Intelligent Transportation Systems and Technologies, also took part in the project.

The "2nd International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems", which is the only international conference of this name in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems and the second of which was held online between 22-24 October 2021, was successfully held with wide participation.

The conference started with the opening speech of Prof. Dr. Mehmet TEKTAŞ, Director of BAUSMER, and separate sessions were held with the participation of Intelligent Transportation Systems Association (ITS Turkey) members (41 members), senior bureaucrats of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, domestic sector representatives, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality bureaucrats and employees, and mayors of the Northern Marmara region, especially Bandırma. Subsequently, paper presentations that could contribute to the sector were made. The conference program attracted great interest from guest academicians, faculty members of our university, students and members of the press.
