1st International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems
Our university, which has been assigned as a specialized university by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) in the field of intelligent transportation systems, has carried out its first international study in this field on April 19-21, 2018 at our Central Campus, 1st International Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference.
Our Rector Prof. Dr. Süleyman ÖZDEMİR, the President of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Association (AUSDER) Erol YANAR, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary-General Yavuz SUBAŞI and Bandırma District Governor Günhan YAZAR made speeches in the protocol speeches. The conference's opening program also showed great interest by the provincial and district protocol, visiting academicians, academic staff of our university, students, and press members.
Dr. Lee Young KYUN, one of the leading names in Intelligent Transportation Systems in the world, made his first presentation in the presentations section of the conference was "Introduction to ITS Activitiesin KOREA", with the subject of "Introduction to ITS Activitiesin KOREA". National Data Warehouse Project Consultant Tiffany VLEMMINGS and Map TM Traffic Management Specialist Giovanni HUISKEN were present with their presentations on "EU Project: SOCRATES 2.0".
After the lunch break, Lee JINHO from South Korea – MOLIT-KEC-General Directorate of Highways "Freeway Management" and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Viktor HACKER made his presentation on "Technical Challenges for the Mobility with Fuel Cells".
The first day's special session topic was "Road and Driving Safety". In the special session, Royal Haskoning DHVITS Strategy Consultant Evert KLEM, ISBAK Survey and Planning Manager Murat Mustafa HARMAN, on "Istanbul AUS Applications Current Status and Future Planning", IETT Information Technology Department Head Dr. A. Önder TÜRKOĞLU made presentations on "Public Transport Incentive Model for Road and Driving Safety".
After the break, the last presentations of the day were given by Marmara University Faculty of Engineering Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Müjdat SOYTÜRK with the topic of "The New ITS Ecosystem: V2X Technologies and Its Applications", Abdullah KESKİN from ASIS Elektronik with the topic of "Intelligent Transportation Systems - Electronic Toll Collection", BURULAŞ General Manager M. Kürşat ÇAPAR "The Effect of Intelligent Transportation Systems on Road and Driving Safety".
Our conference's first-day program ended with a gala dinner at the Grand Asya Hotel at 19:30 with the participation of the provincial and district protocol, the academic management of our university and guest academicians.
The second day of the conference took place in two separate parts. A TÜBİTAK-BİLGEM trip was held in Istanbul, with the program's first leg organized for the participants from abroad. Later, AKOM and the New Traffic Control Center were visited, hosted by ISBAK. In the second leg of the second day of the program, the papers who attended the conference from Turkey and abroad continued to present their papers during the day at our university.
The last day of the conference was also held in two parts. Within the Istanbul trip scope organized for our foreign participants in the first part, Hagia Sophia Museum, Blue Mosque, Marmaray, Eurasia Tunnel, Bosphorus Bridges, etc. technical examination and the touristic trip was carried out. In the second part of the third day of the program, the abstracts who attended the conference from Turkey and abroad continued to present their papers during the day at our university.
The conference, chaired by Prof. Dr. Mehmet TEKTAŞ, where a total of 135 papers were presented, with the intense participation of many national and international scientists, public and private sector representatives, was held with great success.
